The ventilator with a down-to-earth approach to cost
The word inspiration is usually associated with arts but its application is not confined to the work of painters and poets. It can apply equally to technology  - as eVent Medical has demonstrated. The company specialises in ventilators and appreciates the importance of inspiration in both the development and the marketing of its products. This philosophy is reflected in the name of their first ventilator, which is - the Inspiration

eVent Medical is a new company, formed as recently as 2000, but it is one based on
a wealth of knowledge in intensive and respiratory care. Between them the founders possess a total of 63 years' experience in all aspects of this field. So it is not surprising that they quickly recognised the market need and technological requirements. Official acceptance for the company has come swiftly with the granting of full ISO9001/EN46001 and CE certification in September 2000.

The company's declared aim is to provide low cost, high performance ventilator products to the worldwide respiratory care community. To achieve this, eVent has adopted an innovative approach to product design and a fast response time to customer requirement In working to meet this objective it was decided to initiate a competency focused methodology. This meant separating the elements of product design, manufacturing and marketing in different functions, allowing those with expertise in these fields to focus on them. The end result is a sharp reduction in lead-time from initial research to production and availability in the market.

Inspiration    Gives versatile
cost-eeffective ventilation.
Form their wide experience in the respiratory care market, the eVent founders were aware that, to be successful, a new ventilator would have to meet two fundamental criteria. It must provide a consistently high level of clinical performance but must also be affordable.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
The Inspiration    ventilator provides outstanding flexible performance in a number of ways. First and most obviously, it is easy to operate through an intuitive graphical interface with user configurable displays, which allow a full choice of data to be viewed. Standard waveforms and mechanics packages provide a valuable insight into the patient's condition. The responsive and flexible breath delivery, combined with extensive breath modalities, facilitates the treatment of the most difficult cases.

The Inspiration     also includes intelligent alarms and the Smart Singh? and Smart Nebulizer?. These functions allow further tailoring of therapies to meet specific patient needs. An important innovation with this unit is the Mini Web interface, which connects the ventilator to any Ethernet TCP/IP network. So the swift transfer of clinical data between hospitals on a worldwide network is now a reality for the users. With its integral battery operated compressor, the ventilator can also easily be used to transport patients within or between hospitals.

Right from the initial design stage eVent Medical planned that the Inspiration? ventilator would deliver performance that was affordable. This led to an analysis of the elements that make up an acceptable level of cost. Some of these were obvious, such as a low initial purchase price - others less obvious, such as ongoing operating costs. The annual cost of ownership, for example, was broken down into such aspects as purchase price, turn-around time, and preventative maintenance (PM) costs. Of particular interest was the time spent by staff operating a ventilator. This was addressed by the Inspiration? user-friendly design - a significant feature as staff costs constitute a major element in the budget of any ICU.

Another benefit is the minimising of PM requirement, achieved by the ventilator's innovative pneumatic design. By including these concepts at the outset of a project, the eVent Medical team was able to cerate a ventilator that would provide consistently high and affordable performance.
Access through the internet to clinical data worldwide

REMOTE PATIENT MONITORING
Software updates are available to further enhance the versatility of the Inspiration? ventilator and with the Mini Web Server option you can monitor patient data remotely, including; alarm status, settings and waveforms. The ventilator can even e-mail a service technician if a problem arises or preventative maintenance in due.

Offices in Ireland, the USA, Germany, Singapore and the UK provide locally based Service and full clinical and technical support. eVent medical is also a pioneer in the maintenance field, offering a low cost 5 year PM and warranty on the Inspiration? ventilator worldwide.
